Sarasota Fishing Report

Late June had the beach loaded with tarpon, and we found moving schools shortly after clearing the pass. The first groups appeared in the softer morning light, rolling steadily as they traveled along the Sarasota shoreline. With plenty of fish showing and room to position the boat correctly, our two anglers had several legitimate shots during the six-hour trip. Most of the tarpon were traveling in organized pods rather than holding in one small area. Some groups moved quickly and ignored everything in their path, while others slowed down and showed signs of feeding. The productive schools stayed close enough to the surface that we could watch individual fish turn toward a properly placed bait. Mostly sunny skies and good water clarity made it easier to track fish before they reached the boat. A light southeast breeze kept the Gulf manageable through the morning, and the incoming water helped maintain movement along the beach. The strongest window arrived early, before the brighter sun and increasing activity made the fish less forgiving. Fresh live crabs were the clear choice. We placed each bait well ahead of the schools and allowed it to settle naturally into their path rather than casting directly on top of the fish. Accurate presentations mattered more than constant casting, and staying patient between opportunities gave the anglers their best chances of connecting. The Sarasota migration should continue providing opportunities as June winds down, although the pattern can shift quickly around the next major moon phase. Fish may begin spreading out or moving farther offshore as summer progresses, making the remaining peak-season mornings especially valuable. Anglers hoping to target a silver king should reserve their trip while beach conditions and migrating schools continue to line up.
