This Week's Report
We covered both nearshore and inshore water this week, and there was a good mix of fish willing to cooperate. With one angler aboard, we were able to move around and spend time on several different areas instead of concentrating on just one bite.
The variety was the highlight of the trip. We caught redfish and snook inshore, then mixed things up with bonito and cobia nearshore. A couple of flounder rounded things out and made for a pretty diverse day of Sarasota fishing.
Whitebait and pinfish were the baits we relied on. Both have been producing well, and having a couple of live-bait options made it easy to adjust as we moved between the inshore and nearshore spots.
August weather is definitely here. It has been hot and humid with bright sunshine through much of the day. As the afternoon gets going, a warm sea breeze has been coming in and giving us a little relief from the heat. Getting an early start has been the most comfortable way to fish these conditions.
This time of year can give us quite a few options on the same trip, and this week was a good example of that. Redfish, snook, flounder, bonito and cobia all in the mix meant there was always something different to look for as we moved from the bay toward the nearshore water.
