Sarasota Fishing Report

Long before the sun climbed high over the Gulf, rolling tarpon were already giving away their position along Sarasota’s beaches. The fish stayed on the move throughout the morning, and the first few hours produced the best opportunities as our anglers intercepted schools working steadily down the coastline.

Many of the larger groups remained committed to their migration route, making boat positioning and patience more important than making repeated casts. Allowing the fish to come naturally within range paid off, and several aggressive eats came from well-presented live crabs drifting just ahead of the moving schools.

Light southeast winds, warm Gulf water, and good visibility combined for another productive morning. While conditions still looked very much like peak tarpon season, experienced captains know the calendar matters this time of year. With the full moon only a day away, it’s common to see the migration begin transitioning as fish gradually spread out or move farther offshore.

Fresh live crabs continued to outproduce every other offering. Natural drifts and accurate presentations remained the key, especially when targeting schools that had already seen boat traffic throughout the morning. Staying disciplined with each cast created far more opportunities than rushing presentations.

Although the tarpon bite remains outstanding, we’ll be watching closely over the coming week as the full moon arrives. That annual transition often marks the beginning of changing migration patterns, with some fish pushing offshore while others continue moving through the area. We’ll adjust our approach as needed, but anglers looking to experience Sarasota’s legendary silver kings still have an excellent opportunity while these schools continue traveling our beaches.
